The hotel is beautiful. The grounds are stunning. The room was extremely large -- there was one king bed and practically a whole extra hotel room of just space. Each room has a very nice balcony -- ours overlooked the pool. The bathroom was marble, fresh and clean. The shampoos and soaps smelled wonderful and were great after a long day in the hot and sweaty dessert dusty air.
The staff were great -- they did not mind microwaving our food because we have special diets and had to bring all our own food. They even had apples for guests to eat at the reception area.
The hotel was located very close to the lonely camel, which is where the small "mall" is. I was actually surprised that the gift shops were reasonably priced. There is also a supermarket, ATM and postoffice there, as well as some food places.
The gift shop in the hotel was very nice, but expensive. My only real complaint is that the hotel is expensive

"This is an excellent hotel with good facilities and a top restaurant. The industrial architecture of the rooms complex is the only real downside. If you are going to Ayers Rock, then this hotel makes the ideal base from which to explore."

"Unfortunately there aren't too many choices of hotels in Ayers Rock. Sails in the Desert is touted as the best but it did not measure up to the standards of comparably priced hotels elsewhere. We were able to get a great rate through Asia Rooms but it was still not a good value considering the facilities of the hotel. The rooms are very basic, the restaurants very pricey and the grounds mediocre. The patio furniture was dirty with cobwebs on the chairs. The staff though was very friendly and helpful and that was a plus. They accommodated us with a hospitality room after we had to check out so that we could clean up after our tour that day. On the whole they could do a lot to warrant the prices they charge."

"I'm probably not the right person to write an unbiased review about this hotel. We originally had 2 spa rooms booked, one for myself and my husband and the other for our 2 teenage children. It was quite expensive however we were told that there were no rooms available to take the 4 of us and we wanted the weekend to be memorable. When we arrived the hotel had upgraded one of the rooms to the Presidential Suite... now you can understand why I am biased. Unbeknown to the hotel, our baggage had missed the connecting flight and wouldn't be arriving until sometime the next day so we did have to spend more time than we planned in our rooms. It was fabulous having a private spa on the balcony in the spa room and all the extra space in the Presidential Suite. It definitely gets my vote."
