"On check in we were allocated our room facing the air conditioning units located on every roof. The room was small, was very dirty, had NO drawers for clothing had NO wardrobe merely a pipe from the wall with 3 coat hangars thereon. Hotel advertised restaurant, there was not one, just a small breakfast area in what was a building site on the ground floor. Also advertised was a bar and room service there was no such facility on the site. Staying for three nights we having travelled 12000 miles we wished to unpack, but where and in such a dirty location we thought not. After several phone calls we were relocated to the top floor which to say the least was most pleasant with a view of the river and Flinders Station. In truth the hotel was not fit for guests, it is in the midst of a major refurb which should be done when guests are not insitu. One last item, we were stuck in the lift on three occasions needing to call the emergency services on one of them! Four star plus no way, probably the worst hotel in a 60 year experience of world travel."

| "This was the second time that I had stayed in Citigate Hotel, once in Dec 2004 and recently in August 2007.
The rooms were generally fine but I was rather disappointed that not all rooms had a proper window! As such, there was no scenery to see and we didn't know if it was day or night. It would have been useful if the hotel had informed the guests that not all rooms had windows. The lifts were also rather cranky as well, at times not working well and we had to take the stairs once.
Otherwise, the hotel location is great, just across to Flinders Train Station. South bank and Federation Square are about 10 mins away and Bourke Street Mall is about 10 mins walk away. Good for those who wish to do lots of shopping.

"It would be good if you could block the shower water from leaving the shower area in room 6015 so that the bathroom can really be dry."

"The hotel is in the ideal location for tourists - just opposite the station and very close to Federation Square. However, the room was probably the worst we stayed in over the course of our 5-week holiday. It was a 'disabled' room, so maybe the other rooms were better? We stayed 4 nights, so would have liked to unpack properly, but there was extremely limited storage/hanging space - no real wardrobe - so couldn't. There weren't any guest laundry facilities either - something we appreciated in other hotels. The room was fairly large, but the bed was so close to wall at one side it was difficult to get out - and no light or bedside table at that side; lighting overall was very poor; curtains didn't fit properly and were difficult to draw; safe didn't work and had to be reprogrammed; one hinge of mini-bar cupboard door was broken and door fell off when opened - this was 'fixed' when asked, but this proved temporary; toiletries were only replaced haphazardly, the towels were very small and there wasn't enough space to hang them up. On the plus side, staff all very friendly and helpful, but not good at anticipating needs - there were 3 of us sharing but only 2 cups/glasses and only 4 coathangers. Extras were provided very quickly, but should have been there already. We didn't eat at the hotel as there were some excellent restaurants nearby. Overall, probably a good place for the business traveller and those staying just one night, but not so good for families or longer stays."

"Was pleasantly surprised, as we booked it from the internet and you can never be sure of what you're getting. Very comfortable and quieter than we anticipated given such a busy street. The only complaint was no ice at the bar when we ordered some drinks; no doubt just a glitch on the day. This hotel is good value for money."
