"Beautiful resort.Ticks all the boxes.Service in all areas of the resort absolutely excellent, particularly the front desk (rose) Spacious, perfectly close to port douglas if you need a touch or retail therapy, however far away to feel private and exclusive. Downsides were very steep walks around the resort to the facilities, though the resort was quick to offer "golf buggy type ride".Decor in room dated. They failed to meet our plane, that was running late, and we had to make own arrangements, which worried me a bit. Howver overall an excellent holiday."

"Our Stay at Thala Beach Lodge was fantastic. The atmosphear is very relaxed but the service is still 5 stars. All the staff was great. The evening meals were excellent and the waiting staff so friendly. Every morning you could enjoy having your breakfast with exotic birds... Every room is an individual bungalow all surrounded by eucalyptus trees. The pool was amazing and the beach so peaceful. I would really recommend this hotel. We were not so sure before we went because the pictures on the website seemed a bit dated but these pictures don't give the hotel justice. The price was very good considering what you get. I would definately stay again."

"Absolutely outstanding. We had 6 nights at Thala Beach in October for our Silver Wedding anniversary. I travel a lot and can honestly say that this was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. We had a bungalow overlooking one of the two beaches at the property, which is set in 150 acres of forests and woodland. The room was big and immaculate, the bathroom also with separate bath and shower. The furnishings were excellent and the attention to detail in the room was refreshing. The hotel itself is about 20 minutes out of Port Douglas but a free shuttle runs during toe day and evening if you want to go into the town. There was also a complimentary pickup at Cairns airport although this did take a while as it picked up people from all over the place before we got to the hotel. The restaurant is in the main lodge and the food quality and presentation was lovely. Our only gripe would be that the menu did not change during the time we were there and was a bit small if it does not change at all. The property has 2 beaches, one of which is very large with beautiful sand. The grounds are maintained by a team of gardeners who have created walks through the trees and conduct guided walks to look at birds, animals and plants. In our view, this is a grossly underestimated asset, and if you have any interest in nature, this hotel has it all. The shop also houses the tour desk where tours to the reef and rainforest and other areas can be organised to suit individual requirements. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and we loved every minute of our stay. Highly recommended."

"Beautiful location. I wish we had more time to spend at this hotel. "

"Overall I'd give this place a 6 out of 10. On the positive side, the vistas are spectacular, especially from the restaurant and the lounge area next to the restaurant. Additionally, the service is friendly and the bungalows are nicely decorated, private, and overall very comfortable. Now for the negative. The resort is 15 minutes from Port Douglas, and the only way into town is to take a taxi ($35-40) or make an appointment with the hotel shuttle, which costs $5 per person each way. The problem is that the shuttle only leaves at certain times, so you have to plan ahead. The first night we went into town at 2:45 to walk around and have dinner. After 4:00, the next shuttle returning to the hotel was at 10:00, which meant we had a couple of extra hours just sitting around waiting to go home. The restaurant is very pricey, and you get stuck eating there because the alternative is the production of going into town. In short, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone on a budget. Plan to spend at least one full day just enjoying the resort - besides the beautful views there is a beach and hiking trails. And if you want to rent a car, which I'd recommend, plan ahead for that as well. "
