Everything about this hotel was good in terms of appearance, facilities, cleanliness etc.
However the service was terrible - firstly the receptionist who booked us in was very off hand, bordering on rude. Then when we left our cases to be taken to our room, when they got there one of them had been dropped and the handle which would normally retract into the case no longer did. When I took a look at it I found that the handle was now bent.
When I brought this to the attention of the duty manager he said he would have his 'engineers' look at it. The result being - Nothing!
I was then as good as told by the duty manager that I was a liar- because he didn't know whether is was already broken or not!
All he would now do was offer his business card and suggest we take it up with our travel insurance. I then asked to speak to the general manager prior to our leaving the hotel for the airport. However I didn't manage to see her as 'she wasn't answering her pager'!! Although I left my card with the duty manager I have received no contact from THE CARLTON CREST, Sydney whatso ever.
The case was a samsonite case - very strong and very expensive!!
This whole incident left a nasty taste in my mouth and spoilt our stay in Sydney. Our stay in Sydney was only One night as part of a long holiday and this whole incident threatened to spoil the whole
My advice - DON'T BOTHER GOING, there are far better hotels a short walk away in the same district of Syney - use them! Its seems that once they have your money the CARLTON CREST are not interested in you !!

| "The hotel is located near Paddy's market and central station; however, there is no gym and the swimming pool is quite small. The service is just average. " |

| "Located away from most of the "must see" locations but none the less a convenient stop at a some what lower price than other hotels. Near China Town and on major bus routes to the harbour areas." |

| "The hotel is conveniently located near the Central Railway Station and Chinatown.
But you need to use the exit near Broadway, otherwise there is a fair bit of walking to do.
It's not close to the shopping malls, but you can always catch a bus to go down George Street.
The room rate is very competitive for what it offers.
We got a good sized room. In fact it is bigger than some 5 star hotels that I have stayed in Sydney before.
On the downside there are no bell boys at the entrance.
We had to "haul" our luggages up the front steps to the hotel lobby.
We later found out that there's a "hidden" path that leads from the hotel to the entrance of the adjoining carpark where you can then reach the street level.
