Would I stay at this location
again:

Most likely
The hotel's best asset is it's location, at the edge of Hyde Park and at the end of Oxford St. The desk staff were resonably pleasant, young people. When I arrived, however, one of the two hotel lifts was out of order, and wait times for the other lift were quite long at times (the hotel has eight floors). It was repaired in about a day and a half. The lift went out of service for a second time as well during my 12-night stay for about a day. My room was all right, but the decor was spartan, the carpet smelled a bit musty and the bed was slightly lumpy, although still slept reasonably well. The newest thing about the room was a recently-remodeled bathroom with a modern shower. It seemed a small luxury in an otherwise somewhat dowdy room. Most importantly, however, the room was very quiet, and after a long day out and about in Sydney, this was was a most welcome quality. Breakfast of cereal, toast, coffe and juice was included with the room, and the kitchen staff was friendly despite having to deal with the many people they served in small cafe each morning. This hotel does NOT offer complimentary Internet service or any option to upgrade to complimentary service, and I found this disappointing. Rates for internet service at the hotel seemed a bit high-priced compared with other internet cafes in the area ($10 AU for 2 hours in-room using your own computer or $2 AU for 30 minutes at a rather clunky and non-ergonomic bank of four terminals in the far area of the lobby). However the lack of continuous Internet service helped me curb my online usage and probably encouraged me to go out and see more of Sydney, thus adding to my overall vacation experience. The hotel had a safe feeling and there were guests of differing ages and races, which I appreciated. It seemed the hotel had a rather personal touch through this diversity of clientele. I also appreciate the values of the YWCA and felt good supporting their mission through my patronage.

"Location is in walking distance to harbour and downtown! Room was very small and old and carpet was not very clean. Shared bathroom was used. Bathroom was alright but nothing special. Breakfast was good for this price. We had to wait for 2 hours until we could move into our room even though we were told to be back at a special time. "

"I would like to feedback on the breakfast which I think the management can provide something better such as egg/omelete egg and some fruits. Thank you. Leong Hong Ching"

"I have worked in hotels all my life so I know the difference between good and bad service. I have stayed in budget hotels and despite the limited facilities they were able to make the experience extra-ordinarily good. This hotel is extra-ordinarily poor!!! The receptionists especially those who checked us in (initials in the c/in card says "LC")are extremely cold and discriminating. When you come from a 9-hour flight, you expect a friendly and welcoming attitude. This girl and the Indian-looking fellow with him made me feel stupid just because the door of my room won't open when actually the housekeeper has mistakenly double-locked the room. When they ask you to fill-out forms, it comes as an order rather than a request. There were empty food wrappers under the beds, presumably from previous occupants that the room attendant just swept under. The sound proofing of the room is bad that you could hear the cars and those who speak loudly from the streets. I can go on and on but to summarize, think again before you stay in this hotel. I will never recommend it to my friends."
