No way!
Too far from centre. Better to stay at Sisowath area unless a diplomat. Breakfast pretty ordinary. Poor lighting. Very quiet. Pool is a bonus.Weekend managers young and helpful- weekday managers, old, crabby and inefficient

3/5  Posted by MS. JARRETT, Sandra, Australia in January 2008
"As a budget traveller, I found the hotel to be satisfactory on most levels. My only problem was that the hotel being Chinese owned catered mainly for Chinese guests, i.e. Chinese buffet breakfast and mostly (95%) Chinese guests. As a solo traveller, this made communicating with fellow travellers a little difficult. Staff were all very friendly and efficient. Pool was not quite up to pictures in advertising and as far as I know not utilised at all by guests so a bit offputting. The hotel is actually a little out of the main area which means a tuk-tuk or taxi is required to get to restaurants and sights, etc. and although not expensive means you always have to have lots of small USDollars on hand. Although I can't find too much to fault as far as services and cleanliness I would probably not stay again now that I have been to Phnom Penh and know what is what and where."

"Why I will probably not stay at this hotel again is that the room reeked of stale cigarette smoke although I had requested for one smoke free room when booking. I asked for a change immediately upon entering the room but this was not allowed - perhaps they were fully booked? All through the nite, I had to put the bed linen over my head to keep away the smell. It was suffocating. Were it not for high rates that I had paid for the 2 nites i have booked, I would have checked into another hotel. The safe deposit box was also not functioning as some previous guest had cut the wires to the battery (no fault of the hotel). A technician was despatched to rectify the problem but I did not want to leave my important documents there in case the battery wire breaks again and it can't be opened without any power. Other than that, the staff were rather friendly and I felt safe staying in that hotel. It was also a bit far from the places of interest, the nearest being 1km away."

"This hotel is essentially a Chinese tour group hotel (our room keys were in Chinese), there were many tour groups staying there. So at times there were no staff who spoke English. The staff tried to be helpful but were clearly not used to independent, Western travellers. They had difficulty showing us where the hotel was on an English map of Phnom Penh. It was a long way from downtown, it is situated by all the embassies and government buildings. So it would be a good place to stay if you were in Phnom Penh on business. And it was a Chinese breakfast each morning, which was cold by 8am."

"To be fair the hotel was being refurbished,So your first impression was not good. The pool was a disappointment it was not maintained,so no swimming for us! The hotel is a bit far from the centre of Phnom Penh, you need to take tuc-tuc which are expensive.so to come back to the hotel for a swim would have been ideal. But the staff are friendly and very helpfull, and i dare say that when the hotel has finished its refurbishment it will be lovely. We would use the hotel again."

"The Tai Ming Plaza is best described as a bit tired. It is a fairly nice hotel, with reasonable sized rooms and pretty good service but it just lacked something. The hallways were dark and not too clean, and the pool needed a really good scrub. Our room was on the pool level but unfortunately backed onto a service alley which was very noisy with aircon. equipment and staff coming and going. The hotel is located quite a distance from the riverside area on a fairly major thoroughfare, but transport is plentiful at the door. All in all, I'll probably try something a bit closer to the action next time in Phnom Penh."
