Hotel Review posted by Tom Madden, Canada in July 2005

Not a good experience.  Frankly, I am baffeled how the Beijing Hotel is considered a five star hotel.  We were on our honeymoon and had requested a King size bed we arrived and were brought to a room with two single/twin beds.  The hotel would not do anything to accomadate (regardless of us paying more).

The lobby, corridors and rooms are dated and require a serious renovation.  The room we had in particular had stained pillows and the water in the bathtub did not drain when having a shower.  M oreover, the staff was not helpful when asked to reccommend a nice restaurant in the area; we were directed to a near by foodcourt and had a horrific dining experience.  This was my second time in Bejing and regardless of the fact that the hotel is well situated - it was a poor choice of a hotel.

Tom

"This is an excellent hotel. With lots of history. The room is very well organised, well equiped with all the necessirty. It is comfortable for family, especailly for seniors. The location is good, shopping, public transport. area of attraction are within walking distance. "

"Excellent overall. Breakfast really is A$31 daily each. The location is wonderful for shops,Forbidden City,Subway etc. Subway is easy to use. We had two teenage boys with us. They enjoyed it a lot. Beware of being gently enticed into the "art exhibition" where they will gently try to sell you some work that can be much more cheaply bought elsewhere. "

"Extremely disappointed - The lifts were dirty, the corridors were dark and dingy and was not impressed with the service."
