We stayed 3 nights in this hotel in March. Apart from the location, near the forbidden city and Tiananmen, the hotel was very disappointing. Most of the services were overpriced (starting with the tours to the Great Wall, the rental prices for bikes and the Internet rates). The hotel is old and needs to be renovated. The air-con was not working, it was way too warm and taking cold showers was the only way to cool down. The rooms were not very clean and small. The smell of smoke everywhere was disturbing. Even the fresh towels were smelling of smoke. The service was inefficient and had great difficulties understanding English or French. This is certainly not a hotel for business travelers and it seems that most of the guests were tourist groups. As long as the hotel is not renovated, I would recommend to stay at the other Novotel, which apparently was built more recently.

| "Overall the hotel is central to everything and the amenities suit my needs. It has everything a budget traveller or a family requires. The room however is a bit dark even if you switch the lights on. Also the hotel should have advised guests that the sponge bath is not free. I was surprised when I checked out that I have to pay for this. My understanding was this was part of the bath gel and shampoo.
