The hotel was in an excellent location with decent sized rooms, but with no basic facilities such as clocks or hair drier ( a must for Beijing winter!!!)
The service was nothing short of appalling. I had to argue that my requested non-smoking room did in fact reek of tobacco before I finally got a room that was non-smoking.
The staff were surly with all customers having to work a fair bit to get any level of attention from them.
Although the breakfast facilities were superb, I was shocked that the restaurant was smoking, despite the buffet being open-air and hence open to the fumes. The tiny non-smoking area also had smokers in it and the area was not policed in any way.
Also, every night, hotel staff would be in the court-yard at from 11pm onwards cutting, chopping and making a racket, which I was told was necessary so needless to say, it was impossible to sleep!
Despite being open to other cultures, I opted for an international hotel, as i assumed there would be an international standard... however, this Novotel feel short of its other branches.

| "Overall the hotel is central to everything and the amenities suit my needs. It has everything a budget traveller or a family requires. The room however is a bit dark even if you switch the lights on. Also the hotel should have advised guests that the sponge bath is not free. I was surprised when I checked out that I have to pay for this. My understanding was this was part of the bath gel and shampoo.
