Wangfujing Grand was a good value "B Class" hotel. I enjoyed being one of the few Americans there - mostly Chinese, Japanese, and European tour groups. Room faced Forbidden City - you could sort of see the rooftops through the air pollution. Bed was huge. Staff was helpful. Free internet connection was great, and hotel IT fellow helped out when it went out a couple of times mysteriously. 20m pool in basement was great for cooling off and relaxing after a day of hot and dusty sightseeing. Not much in the way of places to eat nearby, and hotel restaurants were rather tacky and expensive. Breakfast buffet was good, and most mornings I found myself mixed into some tour group and was never asked to sign a check to charge to my room. Overall, Wangfujing Grand is a good alternative to the brand name hotel chains for Beijing.

"I have been staying at the Wangfujing Grand since 2000 so it now feels like an "old friend" in Beijing. While Beijing itself is quite unrecognizable compared to 2000, the Wangfujing has changed little (although high speed Internet has been added and it is indeed rather high speed) and so the hotel now seems a bit dated. But it is comfortable, very quiet with comfortable beds, and is convenient to shopping and the Forbidden City. In addition, the staff remains very helpful and friendly. For the money, this hotel is a good bet and I recommend it. "

"How can anyone classify this hotel as a 5-star. It must be a joke, it would be a 3+ and nothing more. "

"Very good location a couple of blocks north of the night market at the northern end of the Wangfujing Walking Street. If you like to walk, it's a moderate stroll to Tienenmen Sqaure and the Forbidden City - or else it's a short cab ride. The concierge, tour/ticket, and reception desks were very helpful but the bell desk insisted on showing us to the tour/ticket office in the lobby when we already knew where the ticket office was. For that "service" they insisted, to the tour/ticket agent, that they were entitled to a commission."

"We'd stayed for 3 nights and we had a great time. We found the bedroom a little tight on space as we had our 6 yr old in with us on a temporary bed but the rooms were clean and adequate although the bed was quite hard. The hotel was child friendly and the swimming pool open and manned with guard (remember to take swimming caps - compulsary). Great central location for sights and shops etc. We thought the accommodation price was reasonable but the bar prices in the hotel were expensive. We would recommend it and stay there again if we revisited Beijing."
