Would I stay at this location
again:

Absolutely!
The rooms and the whole Astor House are special - especially when you compare it to the faceless modern hotels anywhere in the world. You will get the antiquated charme of a first class hotel which had it’s best times in the early 1920s. You may catch an impression of a long lost Shanghai, when travelling in China was something romantic and exotic.

4/5  Posted by MR. MOYON, Olivier, New Caledonia in August 2008
"I had a very nice stay in this old historic hotel . Staff is friendly and efficient . The deco is clean and respect the XIXth century origin . The deluxe room is huge and comfortable , specially for the price. The transfert from/to the airport is easy and not expensive by Maglev + Taxi . I did not try the restaurant but breakfast was good in a very pleasant room . If I'm coming back to Shangai I surely will book this hotel again."

"We were absolutely delighted with this hotel. It was the first time we'd booked and paid for a hotel over the internet through Asiarooms.com but it was fantastic. We stayed in a Deluxe Room on the 6th floor (top floor) which was very tidy, clean and was beautifully furnished. The bathroom was very nice and grand - only slight complaint was it didn't have a bath. The hotel is perfectly located, a short stroll over the bridge to The Bund with a number of small restaurants and convenience stores nearby. The reception staff spoke good english and were very helpful. Didn't try the breakfast as this wasn't included in our rate, but they had a big dining hall and 2 bars on the ground floor. If you're looking for the last shred of history in such an ultra modern city - stay at this hotel!"

"It was a great hotel. Didn't have the latest conveniences or brand new everything but made up for it in character and location. "

"Great place when I was there stayed in an executive suite, close to bridge and fantastic views of Pearl Tower, good food, quiet, friendly people, clean rooms, etc. Don't stay in rooms too close to Exec greeting desk, a bit noisy. Architecture is nice and it is an old classic building. I am staying there again soon as I live in Suzhou (1 hour west of Shanghai) and this is a great place for me although far from metro but Taxi's are cheap. Only problem is there is no elevators!!! If you have bad knees or walking problems, not the place for you."

"Great stay. The old style of the hotel is wonderful. The service is good and it's so nice after struggling in the country side. If you really want to be picky the only thing missing was a swimming pool ;-)"
