Highly recommended. This was a perfect hotel for me, a six-day tourist in Shanghai. It was centrally located, in front of a park, a short block from the walking street, and about a 10 minute walk from two metro stops. The lobby and other public facilities were beautiful. I loved the large, pleasant, comfortable room, which was appointed with everything I needed and more. Unlike most hotel rooms I stay in, there was adequate, bright light for reading. The staff was polite, eager to please, and responded quickly and effeciently to my several requests. This hotel, I think rated four stars, in far superior to the five star I stayed in in Beijing. I would stay at the Central Hotel again and I've already recommended it to several of my friends. You can't go wront with this one.

| "The people at the reception were rather businesslike, whereas the concierge and the bell boys were very friendly and helpful.
The lobby is nice but rather dull and quiet, but good for people wanting to avoid crowded lobbies.
The location is excellent overlooking the Nanjing pedestrian road.
