The staff were not overly helpful. We elected to stay there because it is in a quiet area - it was but that meant a long trek to get to most places of interest. The Concierge services were almost non-existant with the adjoining hotel much more helpful. The hotel was undergoing a refurbishment and the pool was closed and there was scaffolding all around the building.

| "We stayed at the Hengshan for 6 nights over the Chinese New Year. It was perfect. Our room on the 9th floor was at the front overlooking the park.It was great to see and hear the fireworks over the French Concession. We loved watching the people dancing first thing in the morning in the park. The hotel gave us 1 complimentary breakfast each day. We had breakfast each day which was excellent with a huge choice. It worked out very reasonably with 1 complimentary voucher. The cleanliness was impeccable. The position was fantastic, we were so pleased we did not choose an hotel near the People's Square, which we nearly did. The metro is just across the road, but taxis worked out at less than £1 to most places and there are 100's. Within walking distance of the hotel in this quieter part of Shanghai were lovely restaurants, so we would stroll to a restaurant and walk back in the evening. We always felt safe. Restaurants we loved were Sasha's, Simply Thai and the best was People 6 ( brilliant!). The cafe Keven across the road was western food, but good and cheap for drinks and snacks. Shanghai was fabulous. I would only ever stay at the Hengshan Hotel. " |

| "I have been to this hotel a few times, and it's really good value for the money. The rooms are large and clean. The breakfast is expensive, so go to the restaurant heading towards the street and have brunch instead. Internet access i fine aso." |
