The usual buffet breakfast restaurant out of acrtion until May so breakfast whilst included in the price ( high price !) was very disappointing. Limited continental selection in the lounge and limited cooked in Italian restaurant. Also meant the dinner buffet was out of action.
However the Rtz still serves up a sense of style and service which keeps it in my top 3 Shanghai hotels.
This Portman Ritz-carlton hotel review is the subjective opinion of an AsiaRooms customer and not of AsiaRooms.com.
"My overall stay at the Ritz-Carlton was extremely disappointing. While the service of the front desk staff was very professional and polite, the rest of the staff was horrible. I was shocked and extremely disappointed that the level of service one would expect from a Ritz-Carlton was that of a motel. The food at the all the restaurants (I ate at all of them except the japanese one) was tasteless and had no variety or selection. The high-tea service in the hotel lobby was inedible and the service incompetent. How can you have high-tea without serving plates or cream and honey or sugar? It seems as if once the order is placed and the food arrives service goes out the window. Perhaps the training and exposure of good or decent hospitality service has not come to China yet, but for a Ritz-Carlton and the prices they charge I would expect better.
If you decide to stay here, dont expect much. The loacation is great. Thats it!"
"The hotel is nice but for a Ritz or compares with other Ritzs the rooms interior needs to be renovated to be able to continue its five stars recognition."
