Gilligans is a superb place to stay...
Gilligans is a superb place to stay it, it offers high quality accomodation at very reasonable rates. It also has a great bar, pool and other entertainment facilities and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

You have everything available, as it is a backpackers after all. The room and floor where very quiet.
Would stay there again, as I like to cook for myself more than I go out. But it is all there
Although Gilligans is in a good location...
Although Gilligans is in a good location and only a few minutes from the centre of town, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good nights sleep. Gilligans is very popular with backpackers and hosts many theme nights in the bar - fine if you want a night out on your doorstep - but not so good if your room overlooks the bar. Music still thumping at 3am and with a plane to catch that day - I must be getting old!

To anyone thinking of staying in cairns then this is the place to stay, no where comes close..
from all the hostels that ive stayed at in australia this is by far the best, from the great atmosphere of the place which you notice as soon as you see the the sign just outside the hostel/resort which just screams out at you quality and you just know your time here is going to be great, to the awesome bar and club which has a great range of themed nights and cheap happy hours..
i realy cant big this place up enough, you might only be traveling once so enjoy it and stay in the best hostel in australia if not the world..
just want to say thanks to the team at gilligans for giving us the place to stay and enjoy cairns from, its a shame their aren't more hostels like yours..
