I booked a suite (junior executive), but got what I would describe as a superior room with en suite bathroom. By my definition a suite consists of a sitting room, a bedroom and a bathroom. The front office manager insisted that a suite did not necessarily consist of two rooms and that the room allocated to me was what the Esplanade management called a suite.
I call it a misleading description by international standards which the Esplanade aspires to.
I completed the form in which I was invited to record my opinions, etc, but have yet to hear from the manager of the Esplanade.
As a journalist covering Africa and the Middle East for more than 25 years, I am familiar with every conceivable kind of accommodation and, although the service and food were good, The Esplanade Hotel on the whole was a tad pretentious.
