Great Place
This is the second time that we have stayed at Alto on Bourke. Both times we were there during the tennis and so the rates were somewhat higher than normal but we expect this.
The hotel is great, very central to everything you need, Spencer St Station and tram stops just outside the door, around a 5 minutes walk to Crown Casino and around 10 minutes into Pitt St Mall.
Room is small but well formed. Has all the requirements. Bathroom this time was very small and you couldn't open the shower door unless the bathroom door was closed which was quite annoying - especially if the other person had been into use the mirror (only one mirror in the room).
Was very happy with our stay and will definitely be back.

My partner and I recently stayed for five nights in a Hotel Room whilst visiting Melbourne for the Australian Open.
We picked this hotel due to location (we like to be close to town for shopping but also close to Crown for meals) and due to price as this was on the cheap end of the scale (without being in a backpackers or similar) during the final week of the Australian Open.
The hotel room was great, the bed was comfy, bathroom was great and the shower was very good. View looked out onto a brick wall but this didn't impact us as we weren't there for the view and only stopped in at the hotel for sleeping, showering and dropping off shopping. Room was spacious enough although it would be nice to have a specific area for you to put your suitcase - like a ledge or something - ours ended up on the floor at the end of the bed.
The service at the hotel was excellent - upon arrival, they held our bags until check in (as we arrived early in the morning), the service in the bar / library area was great when we stopped in for a couple of beers and all the staff on reception were nice and friendly, asking why we were in Melbourne and whether we had enjoyed ourselves.
We generally only travel to Melbourne for the tennis and any concerts and will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Service was excellent from checkin to checkout. Desk staff were extremely helpful at all times. Rooms were clean, amenities fine, and Asia Room rates made in eminently affordable! Plus ... Location, Location, Location!

we truly enjoyed our stay at the Alto it was close to the venue we were attending. Tdinner as fantastic. The menu choices were small but we thought that was a better way of doing it as too many choices are too hard. Breakfast was fantastic also. The check in recetionist Pippa was very helpful and extremely professional. Service at dinner,waiter, Francis was attentive,polite and also very professional. The checkout reception person also was very helpful and professional. Thankyou for the service we received.

I have already sent an Email directly to the hotel saying Thank you for our stay - which we enjoyed very much, very clean and modern - saying we would stay again the next time we were in Melbourne. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well.

I just got back to the states. I did not fill out the above form but I can tell you that the hotel was great. Great location. The service was excellent and help always given with sincere warmth and humor. Had dinner at the hotel - the best chicken I ever ate - gourmet meal caliber. The location of the hotel was perfect - very convenient and safe. I felt very safe and comfortable throughout my stay. Thanks to everyone at the Alto Hotel. Elisabeth Krebs Schwesinger

This is quite a small hotel with small public rooms. Small area for check in, small dining room. It is by no means a grand hotel but is in the business centre, close to all shopping and the South Bank river area. The staff were friendly and provided service with a smile. Plenty of retaurants around the area so the small dining in hotel not a problem. We only had a continental breakfast at the hotel, which was good.
A good hotel if you are not looking for the grand style.

Didn't actually end up staying here as they were fully booked but the service and warm welcome we received whilst waiting for other arrangements to be made was excellent
