The biggest plus point of this hotel...
The biggest plus point of this hotel lies in its superb location - a mere 1 min by foot to the city mall - Hay & Murray St Malls. The train station, Barrack St jetty (where you can catch a ferry to Fremantle or Rottnest Island) and major bus services are just a stone's throw away. There is also a free city bus service called the CAT (Central Area Transit) that stops just across the Criterion - great for tourists to hop on and off, at no cost at all. Additionally, there is a McDonald's and a mini-mart on the street level so stocking up (munchies that is) and staving off those hunger pangs are not a problem in the later hours.
Although the Criterion is a no-frills hotel, the room that we put up in was clean and comfortable. The staff also responded promptly when we needed a change of lightbulb and kettle. I was most amazed when Housekeeping called us back when we couldn't reach them!
Overall, our stay at the Criterion was a pleasant one! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is travelling to Perth on a tight budget but wants to live in the city for maximum convenience!
