This is probably the worst place I've stayed in Australia. Overpriced, substandard rooms, surly owners and service bordering on the offensive. To give just a couple of examples:My elderly father cut his arm on a nail sticking out of a chair in his room. When I pointed this out to the owner, she replied: "It's good to know we bleed, isn't it?" When I reported that the air-conditioning in my room wasn't working properly, I was told very firmly that yes, it was. The kangaroo steak in the restaurant (which charges Sydney prices) was so overcooked, it was almost inedible. I wasn't going to say anything but the chef came out and asked me how the meal was. I said that, actually, the kangaroo was a little overcooked. He gave me a sarcastic reply, then walked over to the next table and joked to the guests about how he had put me in my place. The swimming pool was closed. It was also closed the last time I stayed in 2006. I'm not convinced it ever opens. The rooms have dirty paintwork, stained carpets, nasty cheap bedding and tiny bathrooms with stained plastic fittings. You would be hard put to find a more sublime location than Glen Helen Gorge, and you would be hard put to find worse accommodation, worse value for money or worse service. It's the only place to stay in the area so I guess the owners just feel they don't have to bother. Try not to stay there if at all possible.
