Mattress was not the best but, certainly not 4 star quality. An extra cover was provided and was better.
Service in the Terrace restaurant was extremely slow but food was okay.
Breakfast was excellent.
Beach area was clean and water very clear.
Bit of a bumpy tuk tuk ride to the main town area.

This is a hotel for those who want to be away from the crowd. The private beach is beautiful and the Sunset Bar is right on the beach and not some sandy afterthought as elsewhere in S'ville. There was a high level of occupancy when I was there, but the hotel is strangely lifeless - everyone goes out during the day. Pool is great and there is a real 60's modern feel about it. The hotel is proud of its history, having been operating since 1963 and this resonates through the building. Security inside the grounds is good....

Great value at the special rate. Beautiful private white sand beach, seclusion, very nice pool and a very large room with a great view. Great location for those that wish to get away from the crowds and a greater value than that of the other 5-star hotel in the area. The service was outstanding with very helpful staff. The complementary breakfast was a bit below expectations but still a good spread with both Asian and Western fare. I had to change dates after I had booked, but everything was done rather quickly and with with no fuss-I will stay there again and will book with AsiaRooms.com due to the outstanding service that I received!

I really objected to the large russian group of men who wree obviouslt=y there tp use the sex trade.
This is not something I wish to encourage in such a beautiful country it brings it down.

Perfect location for quiteness and own private beach. However was quite a way from Sihanouke Ville so required a 5 dollar tuk tuk to get around. The manager and his staff mingle with and talk to the guests and are extremly helpful. However the junior staff were slow and forgetfull but eh this is Cambodia.

My family enjoyed our stay at the Independence Hotel. All the staff were kind and tried to be helpful. The room was fine, clean, large, quiet, with a view of the sea. The beach is private, quiet, and pristine, and there is also a beautiful swimming pool. You can eat in the dining room or by the beach. It was a very peaceful, pleasant stay. The level of English of the local staff members was somewhat limited; the foreign staff were fluent in English.

Isolated, but the location and views are amazing. Staff are very friendly and overall I had a nice experience. There were times when it seemed like I was the only person staying there - the facilities and entire stretch of beach were often deserted except for the staff which was surreal. This is probably not the case in the high season. Rooms were very nice, although maybe not as posh as they are made out to be. Bathrooms are adequate. Overall I would recommend The Independence to anyone looking to get away from it all. People looking for nightlife and activities within walking distance might want to stay at one of the non-private beaches.

We did enjoy our stay here, it was quiet and out of the way although the town centre was easy to get to using the hotel bus. I missed not having affordable e-mail access some hotels we stayed in had free internet access. I loved reading all about the history of the place. Also the gym came in handy when it rained. I would stay here again all the staff were very polite, although they were all very young and still learning their jobs they were a pleasure and I'd loike to thank them all.
