This is not a hotel
Despite the listing of this place as the Beijing Forbidden City Hotel, it is not a hotel. It is most definitely a hostel, as the business cards they have in the lobby explicitly read.
If I had wanted a hostel, I would have booked a hostel. Nothing like the old Bait and Switch on one's first exposure to the country. Awesome.
The beds were an inch of foam over wooden slats (6 of these "beds" were in the room I was given). No temperature control in the room, so I was "sleeping" in a sauna for the night. The bathroom was quite spacious, but no toilet paper.
After breaking my luggage at the airport and lugging it around the city as the subways were closing down for the night, discovering that I was not staying in a hotel (with the appropriate hotel amenities I was expecting) was not a welcome surprise.
On the way back, I opted for renting a room by the hour at the airport. Six hours for 300yen (350 for more than 8), well worth it in comparison to this place!
