The staff were great. English Speaking and helpful, catering to every need politely. The only saving grace for the hotel. Food was good too. Decorations and style of the hotel in the lobby area was pretty.
The room was small, with very limited space. The toilet was somewhat clean but horrendously small. Toilet bowl was stuck half the time with bad flushing system. Sound proofing was bad. We could hear everything that was going on.
My stay was for 5 nights in March which was during Winter. Roomtype: Executive Deluxe. The heating system was bad. The hot water was irregular with bouts of cold water shocking the skin halfway through the shower. The speed, flow and pressure of the water in the bathroom was unmistakenly the worst I have ever experienced. 1 night, the hot water actually stopped and only resumed 4 hours later.
The distance to the MRT was very far, unlike the map stated. It was at least a good 15-20 mins, crossing 2 main roads. If you return to the hutong during late night, it is very scary as it is pitched dark.
Food around the hotel was limited too. Had to walk about 15mins to get to the street with more activities.
In Beijing, there're tonnes of walking whilst visiting those attractions so the last thing u need is a lousy room. A good hotel would relax u and prepare u for the next day. if you just want to stay in a very original hutong area to experience the really olden kind of accomodation, it would be suitable. Else, this hotel is hard to be desired. The only reason for this hotel to be recommended would be that the staff were all wonderful people.
For a hutong hotel, this is considered pretty good but considering the standards of hotels nowadays, i can only grade it with a 2/5 stars.
