We booked this hotel via asiarooms.com. All information on this site and emails was in English (hotel name and address), but taxi drivers understand only Chinese and the only sign on the hotel itself is in Chinese.
We arrived to the hotel around midnight only to find out that our booking was cancelled and hotel was full. They found my name in their records and confirmed the fact of booking, but still didn't let us in. The staff didn't speak any English, they phoned to some lady who described the situation for us. We had to walk down the street with luggage searching for an alternative accommodation.
Next day we managed to check in to this hotel and understood why it was full at night. Transparent glass walls in bathroom and toilet together with an impressive set of peculiar condoms, oils and disposable underwear sure do make this place perfect for business travellers.

Given the price for the standard room...
Given the price for the standard room that we got for 168 rmb (all inclusive), we were very impressed witht the studio room. There was no closet, but the coat hanger was good enough for my sister and myself. The bed was a bit hard for our backs, but we still felt rested. The hotel is old, but it was clean and had all the basic things that we needed.
The room had internet access included, TV with good channels (mostly chinese though). There was hot shower, air conditioning and heater, thermos, tea, comb, toothbrush, towels, shampoo and soap. The staff were very helpful. They even allowed us to leaveour luggage for the day while we went around Guangzhou on our last day (just before our 9pm flight to Guilin).
The bathroom was old and could use some repairs, but it served its purpose for our needs.
The hotel is 3-4 blocks away from HaiZhu metro station and is just steps from the pearl river. It's about 15-20mins. walk to Shamian island.
