The fact that China is written in English and commune in Chinese suggests the integration of Chinese and Western civilizations, ancient folkways and avant-garde lifestyles, Man and Nature, and the open and international feature of the restaurant. Commune here is not the same as the People’s Commune during the so-called Cultural Revolution. Instead, it is the combination of primitiveness and post-modernity, embodying the spirit of loving care in a highly competitive community. In short, a combination of Chinese and Western elements, the name of the restaurant is terse and lively, easy to pronounce and remember, giving expression to the neoclassic characteristics of the star hotel, namely, novel, futuristic and fashionable. China Commune building complex draws on the aspirations of traditional Chinese folk houses, which mainly include the Hakka adobe castles in South China and courtyard houses in North China. With patios and courtyards, the complex reveals the unique feature of traditional Chinese folk houses, viz. the harmony between Man and Nature, among people and between people and architecture.
