The truth about this place

Having travelled extensively in China and SE Asia but never having been to Sanya, I wanted a reasonably priced place as a first recon trip. Big mistake. The marginal savings did not make up for the drawbacks of staying in this local "5" star hotel. The hotel is incredibly hard to find and is definitely not what it seems with the pictures. There is no beach access unless you count crossing a freeway as direct. The service is terrible - we called for a cab on two occasions and the staff tried to scam us with "hotel" cars that charged double what metered taxi would. Hotel cars being cars with no license plates (not kidding). The rooms were decent for the price but whoever designed a shower without a shower curtain (again not kidding) just deserves to be fired. Did I mention the service sucks? We asked for an extra towel and the staff rudely asked why we needed a third towel. What would that matter? The gym and spa are a joke even compared to US 3 star hotels. The restaurant was decent and fairly priced (for Sanya) but the 24 room service only starts at 530PM and on both occasions when we asked for Haninese chicken (perhaps the most ubiquitous dish in Sanya) we were told it was sold out (at 430PM and 1130PM). All in all, I definitely would not be coming back. I wasn't expect Mandarin or Shangri-la but this was a joke. For 1000RMB a night I'd rather spend it on a great dinner and drinks and sleep on the beach (which had trash on it by the way). Happy huntings (for another hotel).

Not a 5 star Hotel max 3 stars

Upon arrival it was a big problem to check-in, same happens during check-out. 3 staff needed 25 minutes in teamwork. One was able to comminicate a litle bit in english, but a chinese guest has to assist the procedure. No informations could be given by the staff, neither the way to the beach or the western restaurant. Breakfast was lousy, one hour after beginning no juices, coffee was only nescafe added with milk and sugar from a machine but only if you were lucky, the first day was only water no powder. The western breakfast is eggs, toast, fruits and some bread- the rest is chinese. There are beach beds across a main road - hard to cross- but without matrasses and towels, so you have to lay down on hard wood with your bathroom towels and bathrobes. No possibility to buy drinks and the garbage was taken away after two days. After check out we asked the porter to call a taxi to the airport. Fisrt question was "what is airport". We finally were asked to go down to the street to look for a taxi- behind several stairs and the garden with the luggage. This is never a 5 star Hotel and with this management will never be.
