Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is the exciting and cosmopolitan capital of Thailand, known for its impressive temples, colourful markets and vibrant nightlife.

Locally referred to as “Krung Thep” or the “City of Angels”, Thailand’s largest city is a fascinating travel destination with a staggering population of over 10 million people.

Located at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River and modelled after the ancient city of Ayutthaya, Bangkok was once known as the “Venice of the East” due to the intricate canal and river networks running through the city.

Founded by King Rama I, Bangkok became the capital of Siam and centre of government in 1782. As trade relationships blossomed with the West, Bangkok became a wealthy city leading to its status as the centre of Thailand’s trade, business and economic hub today.

With everything from colossal shopping malls in Central World to the impressive Royal Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, Bangkok is a truly modern city with a rich history. It remains one of Asia’s most visited cities as it continues to attract millions of visitors from around the world each year.
