Hammock on the beach in Koh Samui

Koh Samui, Thailand

Koh Samui is a popular holiday destination, with beautiful temples, beaches, mountains and a vibrant nightlife centred on Chaweng and Lamai beach.

Located 700km south of Bangkok in the eastern coast off Surat Thani, Koh Samui is the third largest island in Thailand.

Originally a coconut grove when Chinese immigrants from Hainan Island settled in the area in the 18th century, its name is believed to be derived from the Chinese word ‘saboey’, which means ‘safe haven’.

This culturally-diverse island is home to famous beaches like Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Choeng Mon and more, while nearby Koh Phangan is the island that plays host to the legendary Full Moon parties, well-known with partygoers all around the world.

A short boat ride from Koh Samui will take you to the surrounding islands of Koh Tao, Ang Thong archipelago and Koh Nang Yuan, where the beauty of its marine life continues to attract divers and snorkellers from around the world.

With plenty of water activities available and scenic beaches to admire, Koh Samui Island is one of the best places for a beach holiday.
