Shenzhen, China

Shenzhen is one of China’s most successful economic hubs, famed for its bargain shopping, great nightlife and sprawling theme parks.

Located in Guangdong province in southeast China, Shenzhen is China’s first and one of its most successful Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

Once a fishing village, Shenzhen today is known as China’s economic miracle. Its location next to the Pearl River Delta and immediately north of Hong Kong (it takes a mere 40 minutes by train from Kowloon) has given it an advantage for economic development.

Shenzhen is home to numerous hi-tech companies, a thriving stock exchange and in recent times, has developed at an astonishingly fast speed to become China’s largest manufacturing zone, pulling in migrant workers by the millions from the poorer hinterland.

Shenzhen is a boom town with such rapid growth and development like never before – and as a result, is a truly diverse city with a wide variety of local and international cuisines, Western brands and a thriving dining, nightlife and arts scene.

The numerous theme parks in Shenzhen include Happy Valley, Splendid China, China Folk Culture Villages and Window of the World, a fantastic replica park of world-famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Pyramids of Giza and Niagara Waterfall amongst others.

Extremely popular with Chinese tourists and day-trippers from Hong Kong, Shenzhen is quickly becoming China’s next most creative city.
