You can enjoy the hussle bussle of the city centre bars or visit the calmer surroundings of Viktoria-Luise-Platz, south of Schöneberg is Friedenau, which has magnificent late19 century period mansions. In the town hall Schöneberg, in 1963 John F. Kennedy made his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech. This town hall was West Berlin’s political administration up to the reunification and here still to this day the liberty bell rings at noon. The Friedhof cemetary in Stubenrauchstraße has the grave of perhaps the most famous Berliner: Marlene Dietrich, born 1901 in Berlin Schöneberg. On the Tauentzienstrasse, the eastern extension of the Kurfürstendamms is the department store of Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) the largest department store on the European mainland, for buying that something special.
