Elounda Island Villas

Hotel Description

Two steps from the sea shore and 1km way from Elounda village, one of the most cosmopolitan and world-wide famous places, Elounda Island Villas with its peaceful location is a perfect destination for families, couples, newly-wed or a friendly companionship.
The architectural style of the Villas is based on the traditional local style, that blends harmoniously with the native landscape of olive and carob trees. In the sprawling gardens, flora and fauna bloom all year round, set against the striking blue of the Aegean and an ever-clear sky.

Guests can choose between a small apartment, sleeping 2 in 1 double bedroom; a medium apartment which has an additional single bed; and a large apartment which sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms, plus an additional bathroom.
At the entrance to the villas, directly in a garden with a spectacular view, there is a snack-bar, where one can have breakfast and enjoy a fresh smoothie or a traditional Greek dish.

One of the two cart tracks next to Elounda Island Villas leads to one of the most beautiful bays in the area, Kolokytha, which can be reached by foot, car and boat. Kolokytha has a small sandy beach and a wide and shallow sandy bay with gorgeously translucent turquoise water. On the way to Kolokytha are numerous rocky inlets and coves, with equally enticing water for swimming, and especially for snorkeling as the marine life is rich and colorful.
A ten minute walk round the head of the bay and over the little stone bridge across the miniature canal which pierces the causeway, brings you to one of Elounda's two sand and shingle beaches, where sunbeds are available for hire. Another 8 minutes walk will bring you to the main square of Elounda, with the well-organized municipal sandy beach.

Elounda Island Villas is privileged to be standing by the ruins of a very important, in the ancient times, city named "Olous", which was sunken probably because of an enormous earthquake caused by Santorini's volcano explosion. Olous was situated on the left and the right side of the causeway that connects Elounda with Spinalonga peninsula and Elounda Island Villas. Olous was a very important city and harbor in Minoan times, with it's own currency and a population of over 40,000. Here stood the statue of Vritomartes and finds in the area including rock tombs with funery objects are on a display in the Agios Nikolaos museum. When the weather is calm the remains of Olous can be seen on the sea bottom. When snorkelling through, a number of houses can be seen together with the old harbour wall.
