Newton North Point - check if pool is finished...
We had a hard time finding a hotel with a pool as this was a busy time period with public holidays and such. So we did not mind terribly paying almost double compared to what we normally do in Hong Kong. So imagine my fustration when we get there and am told that the pool has been closed since October last year, it really should be noted on the website when you book as this may have prompted us to stay elsewhere as North Point involves a little bit of travelling, fine if you have been to Hong Kong before, but perhaps daunting if you are a first time visitor. However this is also one of the biggest hotel rooms we have stayed in(we were upgraded almost immediately): large bed room with harbour views and a seperate lounge and kitchenette. It is quite charming having the fresh market downstairs and no it does not smell. Markets are close by. Good if you are spending quite awhile in Hong Kong as the extra space comes in handy. They really should clean their carpets though but found this to be a problem in most Hong Kong hotels!!
I would only recommend this hotel for...
I would only recommend this hotel for budget accommodation only. It's biggest drawback is being directly situated on a market street with fish, meat outside which some travellers may dislike.
The staff were helpful and the room a/c were all sufficient. There was also a business centre onsite for emails and internet access in the room if required. It's location off Kings Road is relatively central with lots of local restaurants at reasonable prices. There is a mini-fridge for stocking your own purchases but no mini-bar.
The price in comparision with other hotels is very good on budget for Hong Kong and suited my needs accordingly. When asking for extra pillows/towels the hotel provided and made-up the room promptly when requested.
The pool was closed at the time of visiting in April and is due to open in June 09 again.

The place was just right for us. Right in front is a market/stalls, near the MTR, near the 7-11.
The staff were friendly, able to speak in English, able to give the right directions.
My room had a perfect view of the HK harbor which is spectacular at night.
I just hope the swimming pool is up when I go back, otherwise, it was a wonderful stay.

Please also see comments in Community section. Hotel location is good, just 3 min from the tram station (North Point) and 10 min (with kids and stuff) from the MTR. If with luggage and strollers, find the disabled access for the MTR and you will find it easier than carrying everything up stairs!
The tram was fantastic and cheap. Good for people with kids since the station is the 1st stop. Can get seats.
We were lucky to get a high floor so can see over the building opposite. Can just sit and chill by the window and watch the world go by.
If you hate meat or fish, this may not be the hotel for you as it's in a residential area and market stalls surround the hotel. If you love observing local life, markets and all, you will love it.
No breakfast (which is fine as there is food aplenty everywhere). No swimming pool as it's under renovation.
Staff not very nice to my kids but cannot complain I guess as some people do not like boisterous kids. Not much contact with the staff so it's fine with us.
Enjoyed our stay in HK and the hotel. Thanks Asiarooms. We have booked with you more than 10 times in the last 3 years and thanks to all the reviews put in by your clients, we have not picked really bad hotels yet.

Tram terminal 2min walk away. Bus terminal & MTR & Ferry 10min walk away. Reception civil but not warm. Doorman, porter, cleaning lady and technician very helpful. Experience ordinary life just by stepping out. Do not expect class or Luxury. Expect buzz and and ordinary life at the wet market and residences. You will find wriggling fresh seafood and fruits, shoes, t-shirts, delicious roast goose, good quality chinese herbs at very reasonable price and people about their daily routines from 7am to 7pm.
Ok, this place is 3 star, but...
Ok, this place is 3 star, but it is a decent & good value 3 star ! Some folk may not like its proximity to the Chung Yeung market, but I think it adds charm ! The bonus was I had a great view of the harbour, which also offered good natural light.

There were four of us who stayed in the hotel (2 adults and two kids ages 6 & 7). The room they gave us was big (it had a sofa bed for the kids and a dining table). The location of the hotel is very nice because it is just near the market where you can find cheap water, fruits and affordable restaurants. Just walking distance from the North Point MTR station.
