Clean, ideal location & value for money
The Garden View YWCA is a good value for money hotel, located about a 20 minute (steep hills if your knees aren't' the best) walk from Central. it is good value for money, there's a park and shop right next door for incidentals, and the rooms are spacious for a hotel within this price range in Hong Kong. The customer service is lacking a little, and housekeeping took time when our daughter was sick on a bed sheet. Be that as it may, the rooms are clean and well-appointed for the price. One thing that could be improved is internet access. There is access in the rooms via LAN cable only, which doesn't work if you only bring an iPad or a wireless-only netbook. There's wifi in the lobby, but it costs $100HK per day, which is a little on the expensive side considering Hong Kong has free public wifi that can be accessed in the park across Garden Rd and most Starbuck's and MacDonald's have free wifi.
Aside from the lack of good internet, it's a great hotel, and we would definitely stay there again.

HK Garden View hotel
Location is perfect right by the gardens, and easy walk to Central. We got a free upgrade to a high floor deluxe room with a nice open view. Supermarket nearby is handy for snacks etc.. Good base for a long weekend in HK.

Very clean and nice, great service and we got a suite because our type of room was booked completely and it doesnt matter to us
A Short Visit
The Garden View provide us with a very clean and comfortable environment to live in .Mind you, the room is quite small but the view of the garden and the downtown skyline is exquisite. It is giving you your money's worth.
Bad service
Dont expect much in terms of customer service from these people, they pretty much want to get rid of you when you ask a question. They charge through the roof when you need to use the internet and also charge extra for using an internet cable in your room (You can only use wireless in the lobby). Although it was one of the cheaper hotels in hong kong there are hidden charges, such as charging extra for room cleaning services.... These charges should be included in the full price as all other hotels I have stayed at.
I asked one of the staff how to get to the Tung Chung railway station, she told me to take the Peak tram, which was completely wrong. I later had to find out from a local how to get there.
On the plus side, the room is very clean.
If you are going to use the internet, then go across the road to the Botanical and zooilogical gardens where they have free internet.
WHen connecting to internet search for "freegovwifi-e" and use the username and password both as "govwifi". Its the same for both.
I found some people in Hong Kong, especially the older people in the service industry like waitresses etc very rude, they just want to serve you and get rid of you as quickly as possible, they missed so many things when I ordered food....

good location- excellent walking to central and public transport- taxi always availalbe. great morning breakfest- you will need it! good beds, tv , rooms. Go fall in love with this wonderful city,
The location was terrific, we started every day with a walk through Hong Kong Park or the Botanical gardens and arrived in Central or Admiralty cheerful and ready for the rush and hustle of Hong Kong.

Enjoyed our stay........
Not the best location on the island but the place is nice and quiet, and we enjoyed our stay at this place. Didn't try the restaurant or the wifi, used the free wifi at the Botanical Garden across the road. There is also a supermarket just around the corner.
Happy with stay at Garden View, YWCA
We love the YWCA for its location away from the frenetic crowds of Hong Kong island. It's situated on the Mid-levels above Central which is a short 10 minute walk down-slope along Garden Road. To get back to the hotel, we usually hop onto bus # 12A from Pedder Street (Central MTR station) or from Tamar Street above the Admiralty MTR station. You don't really need the taxis to get anywhere.
Rooms are super clean and well-maintained. Thumbs up for the hard-working housekeeping crew at YWCA.
Will definitely stay at Garden View again.
