Alum Kul Kul Quad room

We have previously stayed in many hotels of similar rating (****) in legian/Kuta area. Although this is not necessarily the best, the hotel and room is quite adequate and clean with no real faults. Service is good. The hotel is mainly ground floor and first floor rooms set in a fairly traditional style garden including many fruit trees. Most rooms have verandas or balconies which we didn't. I would recommend this otherwise you are confined to room and there is no outdoors to have drinks or hang washing etc. The 2 pools are relatively small and not that interesting (for older kids). The quad room was quite spacious though and beds, bathroom and aircon were great.A heavy curtain provides separation of kids from adults probably quite suitable for younger families. The restaurant is good quality and food for evening meals (once) but buffet breakfast was very average for $12 per person. There are a lot of restaurants nearby.
The hotel is directly acrross the road from beach. The beachside road is oneway and very congested with traffic.Access to some areas is difficult e.g it took us 1 hour to get to Waterbom by Taxi-could have walked quicker.(Taxis are very cheap although delays are frustrating).
In summary whilst the hotel is quite adequate it lacks any wow-factor or special interest.

Second time not a charm!
We stayed at Alam Kulkul same time last year and enjoyed the experience immensely but this time we were very disappointed with the room we were allocated. It smelt like mould and the air-conditioning was leaking badly. We complained and luckily the Manager remembered us from last year so we were then looked after and upgraded to a much nicer room. After the first night it was a fantastic stay except the floor was always sandy/dirty.

Aug 2011
Room was very plain, basic furniture, nothing else, but did have a balcony overlooking the pool area. There was a smell as you walked in the door like something was dead, never found out what it was.Staff were very friendly & helpful. Didn't eat in the restraunt, but the coffee at Papas was very good.

Beautiful Bali
It was my first time in Bali and it was a rather short trip as i wished it was longer =). It was amazing and awesome i truly enjoyed it. I found this from the internet and went through days of crazy research and i initially wanted a Villa but i thought it was stupid as im there for less than 3 days and would hardly be in it. I decided to go with Alamkulkul based on reviews as well but it is a fantastic location. Opposite the kuta beach and you can walk along the lanes and it was quite central. The staff are so friendly and nice and very pleasant and welcoming. The room was nice with the poolview. I had doubts about walking 3 storeys up to my room but well it was worth it i feel fitter lol!! Anyways, they have great security guards especially the night guards. Very attentive of how you go and who you go with. I cant comment much on the food as we hardly ate in this hit n run trip but they also had one of the most wanted things to do the Alamkulkul spa which is quite a top there as their oils are created by them original. My best friend had the traditional massage and i had aromatherapy massage and my aunt had a facial massage. Fabulous after effect feeling. I will definitely go back again. But i did not like the smell of the room but it was clean neat and everything pleasant but it just had this lingering awful smell but was not so strong. We all had a awesome time that is for sure =)
Thank You AsiaRooms & Alamkulkul Boutique Resort

Good value for money
Friendly quite hotel, tranquil surroundings only negative room were very dark and curtains not made to be pulled open, lights had to be on all the time and rooms were a little musty due lack of natural lighting. Good value for money through Asianrooms.com. Received free 3 course dinner which was lovely and the hotel put on a cocktail party with free drinks and finger food. Staff attentive and we were made to feel very welcome.

Disappointing
I visited Kuta after spending a few days in Ubud. The hotel we stayed in Ubud was fantastic and tranquil. When I saw the room in Alam Kul Kul, the floor had a huge spot of embedded dirt which I think will not come off or perhaps poor cleaning was done to the room. The bathroom walls were filthy and mouldy. The room smelt funny and the floor was dusty. The shower had very low water pressure and there was no steady flow of water, the water would come and go as you are showering. Spending a ridiculous amount of money for a room that I thoroughly did not enjoy was what I regret the most in this trip. The management of Alam Kul Kul should take some time to send in a proper cleaning crew to clean up the rooms and the areas surrounding it. An upgrade on the furniture is also very much needed. To get into the heart of Kuta town requires a 20 minute walk..which is fine by us because we did not want to stay in a central location where there is too much noise. The staff are friendly. But no, I will not recommend this room to even my worst enemy. With the money I spent on this room, I could have gotten a 5 star hotel room in the heart of KL with better amenities. Although we did not spend much time in the room, coming back to a substandard room after a tiring day was not in the cards for this trip. I wish I booked a room elsewhere.

Stinky
had to change rooms the room was very smelly must have a damp problem or toilet waste problem, the next room we went to was not as bad but stank, thought we would try to save a bit of money on this hotel and we did but pool was under consruction, they were building next door 24hrs loud banging, and the room stank and the reception did not really tell you to much. overall if we had known the pool wasnt working, construction was right next door and the room stunk we would not have stayed.but asia rooms should be given that info, where does customer service start ?????
