WOW, an Oasis of R&R in Bali...
WOW, an Oasis of R&R in Bali and a reason to return to Ubud despite it's urbanisation.
Cannot understand why Asia Rooms lists this as 3 star.
It fully matches the 5 star definition in all but the sumptuous lobby... and who cares. They deal with you personally in lounge environment reminiscent of the days of old Raffles.
And Meals...? Lobster is half the price at Jimbaran Bay.
Rave, rave, rave... this was the only thing that could stop my wife shopping. This place is so stunning she just wanted to stay and stay and stay.
Please upgrade their star rating guys they deserve it.

We enjoyed our time at the Pita Maha, and intend to return. The best thing about this hotel is the atmosphere. Some of the other top-end hotels in Ubud, such as the Four Seasons or the Aman, have a someone sterile feel. They could be almost anywhere. The Pita Maha seemed much more Balinese to us.
The villas are spacious, with attractive pools (those that have them). The long views give a very open feel. The main facility is the spa villa, which is highly recommended - not so much for the massage but for the facilites (many pools, a steam room and a sauna), which you have to yourself since the villa only takes one couple at a time.
The staff were very friendly and accomodating, though occasionally their English was a little weak. Food is mediocre at the Pita Maha - fortunately Ubud is only a short shuttle ride away, and there are many great options there.
We stayed in a duplex villa expecting...
We stayed in a duplex villa expecting it to be like a suite however it was just 2 bedrooms one on each level. The plunge pool villas would have been much better. The staff were magnificent, we especially liked the busing arrangements into UBUD. When you're ready to go back to the hotel, just call them and they come out to collect you, anytime.
