This is a fabulous hotel in terms of the setting, the staff, and the service. Free shuttles in and out of town, extremely helpful. When I called, they found for me a disc with all my photos I had left behind and sent it with their driver to meet me at the airport in Denpasar as I was passing back through even though I wasn't going back to the hotel! Our room was near the top of the hotel, which extends into a ravine. Some might have trouble wityh the steps. A truly great place.

Had a fantastic stay at the Tjampuhan Hotel, the staff were brilliant, very friendly and attentive. The location of the hotel was perfect, away from the hussle and bustle of central Ubud but not too far to walk, if you're not that way inclined the shuttle service was excellent and very prompt. We particularly appreciated the effort that the hotel put in on Nyepi to ensure that we had an enjoyable day. Considering that it is a day of silence when traditionally no work is done the staff put in a lot of effort to ensure that there was minimal disruption to our holiday and the whole occasion was a fantastic experience. Don't be put off by the lack of fridge either as there is a 24 hour mini-mart opposite the hotel where you can buy drinks for a fraction of the hotel prices!

We thought the hotel was terrific. The location is great and van service in and out of town makes it even more convenient. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the views all over the property are spectacular. Service was impeccable. The hotel staff literally fell all over each other to make us feel welcome and to fulfill any of our requests. The daily breakfast buffet wasn't lavish but certainly satisfactory. We've stayed at several hotels in Bali and this rates among the best.

The hotel is beautifully located next to a river, in a sort of valley, surrounded by a tropical forest. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is a bit unfriendly, compared with other hotels in Bali.

This was the most amazing hotel I...
This was the most amazing hotel I have ever seen. The setting was incredible, the carved stone on every surface and through all of the winding paths making their way through the property - with the magical addition of sweet red flowers placed throughout, made this a truly exotic and enchanting experience. The restaurant was good (great breakfast!) the service was friendly and helpful, and the pool was small but great. The rooms were beautiful and secluded with a lush tropical outlook. I didnt use the spa - which is a shame, because it was an extraordinary place (check it out if you go!), but the treatments were pretty expensive. There's a movie room where you can watch DVDs on a big screen (although the picture quality was quite poor). Unfortunately there are no self catering facilities (bar fridge or tea and coffee making supplies) but this is the only complaint. The location was good too. It was only a 15 - 20 minute walk to the centre of Ubud, but the hotel has a shuttle service too and on one day they organised hire scooters for us, a great way to get around. This place was truly magical. We were on our honeymoon and were treated to rose petals scattered across the bed and through the bathroom, plus a great fruit basket. It was a lovely touch.

Wonderful hotel! We stay for for nights...
Wonderful hotel! We stay for for nights in December 2005. The hotel is overlooking the valley and the river. The garden is spacious, full of flowers and encient trees. The raja room is nice and sitting in the verandah is a wanderful time, relax in it and enjoy the view of the valley. The frogs and the insect will enterteint you through the nights. The staff were very friendly and big smile is the first thing you'll see from their face before they answer your question. Entering the spa is like entering a beautiful carvetted cave, massage is right on the top of the river. Bird singing, insects and the sound of the river flowing is the only sound you can hear here. Bit expensive but its worth it! All and all stay in Tjampuhan Hotel was a wanderful experience!

We stayed for two weeks (which was the longest stay at the hotel in October). The surroundings in the jungle valley close to the city of UBUD are exceptional. The service was very attentive and the swimming pool was very romantic. Dont expect a TV in the room or a hair dryer (if you need that in the tropics). The room was very pleasant.

We had a somewhat mixed experience at...
We had a somewhat mixed experience at Hotel Tjampuhan. On the plus side, the whole place has a fun, kitschy sort of 1940s tropical atmosphere, and the dining room and included breakfast were both very nice. The spa "grotto" is a hoot - way overdone, like the rest of the decor and landscaping. We enjoyed the pool, the mature vegetation and the many pathways meandering through the grounds. On the other hand, this place would be very trying to anyone who struggles with stairs. The room we were assigned was an "Agung" level room (according to the website). One thing that was not clear before we arrived was that rooms at this level do not have air conditioning. If this is important to you, you will want to get clear confirmation of your room's features before you book. Our first night there it was quite hot, and as the speed of the fan could not be increased, we found it hard to sleep. Later nights were better. Also, the staff will burn a mosquito coil in your room when doing early evening turndown service. We ended up appreciating that since some mosquitos were in fact present in the room. It wasn't until Day 3 that we noticed the small windows high above the shower that are completely open to the outside! (hence the mosquitos) We blocked these with towels and had no mosquitos thereafter. Finally, the hotel is probably about 15 minutes walk, a bit uphill, to the action in Ubud. Not that strenuous, but at mid-day it was brutally hot to make that trek in the full sun. Ubud itself is a great place to visit, however. We loved the Sacred Monkey Forest, the Ubud market (I hope you like to bargain hard) and the restaurants (esp. Terazzo - fantastic). Viva Bali.

We loved this hotel. Service was professional and attentive, and the room was good-sized and quiet. We liked the hotel layout, but guests should be aware of the number of narrow stairs and walkways to get around. We usually walked to and from town but never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a shuttle when we used the service. Overall, a very positive experience.
