Splendid hotel, professional and pleasant service staff, impressive landscaping are what make Uma stand out. Especially liked their bathroom, wardrobe and patio that looked out over a valley - on the days it rained I could hear the water gushing in the stream far below.
I'm more ambivalent about the spa services - average quality for top-tier prices. Food at the Kemiri restaurant was good, though. Breakfast was always a hearty affair that lasted me through to dinner. I ordered room service for a couple of dinners so that I could enjoy the view from my patio, and each time, the spread did not fail to please or satiate.
But perhaps Uma's winning touches are in the finer details. Cold towel and a refreshing drink were served on my arrival late at night. The hotel has a bibliophile's dream of a library - small but amply filled with titles from classics to Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch. If you're stuck your room on a rainy day, u could borrow VCDs from the front desk. All titles looked to be releases within the past 2 years.
If I had to nit-pick, it would be that the narrowness of walk-ways meant that I literally had to fend off plants poking into my path at times. Having a patio also invited insects (harmless), and the occasional pinch of dirt, into the bedroom.
All told, Uma made an effort to make itself a home away from home. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
