The staff, although lovely spoke very limited english and the rooms were very uncomfortable. The place was very peaceful but everything closed early so unless you go to bed at 7pm not very good place to stay. The TV had only one english channel and no dvd facility. The food and spa was very over priced. Expect to pay more for food than you do at home.

Room 211 is big but Sparten. ...
Room 211 is big but Sparten. The pool in Room is private in the sense that other guests cannot use it but, it's in plain view of the above and neighboring villas. The groundskeeper also let himself in to clean the pool too early in the morning. The wireles internet was not working during our stay. When we arrived for Sunday breakfast at 8:30, all of the burners keeping the food warm had long since gone out and the eggs, sausages, etc. were all cold. The hotel taxi drivers were persistent to the point of being annoying in selling their pricy, not-included services. As guests, we could not book a spa treatment a day in advance due to the spa being fully-booked. The pleasant surprise was that the spa at the Payogan being closed led us to the Tree Spa at the Kupu Kupu Barong Villa, which was phenomenal. We will find a way to stay at the Kupu Kupu the next time that we're in Ubud.

My husband and I stayed at the...
My husband and I stayed at the Payogan for our honeymoon. When we arrived after a very long and tiring flight, we were greeted with a cool fruit drink and a chilled washcloth to refresh ourselves with while we checked into our bungalow. When we arrived at our bungalow, they had lined the path to our door with flowers and there were fresh flowers everywhere in our rooms. And what rooms!!! The place is beautiful with a canopied bed and the most decadent indoor/outoor bathroom that I have ever seen. We also had a nice sized private swimming pool (with a cabana where we ate breakfast), amazing views and COMPLETE PRIVACY. The resort is arranged so that no bungalow can see into any other bungalow's facilities, and the river valley that the bungalow overlooks is owned by the resort and is completely undeveloped. It is a native styled bungalow and there were a few frogs in the outdoor bathing area and there might have been a bat in the room(we never saw it but we heard something at night), but to me that just added to the ambience. The service was polite and discreet and the food was very good, especially the fruit pancakes for breakfast. It was a wonderful experience, and as soon as we can manage it, we would like to return.
