I've just returned (July 2011). Since people were mentioning the construction from 2 years ago, I assumed it would be finished. But no, consctruction moves slowly in Bali & this place is literally surrounded by larger hotels towering over it which are far from completion. The Balinese workmen were wolf whistling at the girls swimming in the tired looking swimming pool with mass trip hazard concrete surrounds & large uncovered pool filter.
Whoever took the touched up photos shown on this & the hotels main site did an excellent job. You can rest assured they provide you with a very misleading idea of what this hotel looks like. Even if there weren't piles of rubble, masses of potted plants awaiting their return to the ground & small biulding facilities being torn down to be rebuilt with the resulting debris being blown around. This place would still be very old, worn out & generally resemble an old hotel in dire need of a facelift, which is whats happening right now. From 6am-10pm, you can hear the Bang-Bang-Bang & various other noises from people working around you, almost on top of you at times & will be for at least a few more years.
And yes there are plenty of mosquitoes for everyone. Make sure you buy a can of fly spray, because everyday the cleaners leave the door open to replace the ones you killed the day before. So you'll have to settle into a routine of spraying before you head out for dinner. Because after eating the included breakfast, you'll definately be looking elsewhere for food. If you must stay here, the place over the road with free wifi (no wifi in hotels open areas as stated) has very good & cheap food & they should be your only reason for venturing down this way over the next few years.
Check this place out in about 2016 (estimated) & hopefully the same great staff are all that remain of the old Champlung Mas Hotel, as they are very nice people.
