Too Dutch!
We found the hotel to be just too far out of Ubud, without your own transport. The setting was beautiful, the access to the hotel was really poor. The staff were excellent especially the manager who did everything to make our stay enjoyable. The bathroom was very dated and shabby which is a shame as the rooms were really nice. Because of the predominantly Dutch clientele the food and the overall atmosphere was Dutch. Would i stay there again? not unless i was Dutch and i wanted to be isolated.

Bunga permai is a nice hotel and great value for money, about 10 mins out of ubud centre but easily accessible via scooter or taxi. I wouldn't rate the spa treatments here the room was very clean and comfortable.

Great hotel if you want some peace and quiet
This is a really charming hotel in beautiful surroundings, very relaxing and best of all no television or phones in the rooms. We booked for 3 days and stayed for 8. Well placed for day trips all over Bali. Not a good choice if you want to spend time in noisy and crowded Ubud; it is a 40,000 rupiah taxi ride away. Also you should find your own driver as the hotel quoted us 650,000 rupiah a day, well above the going rate of around 400,000. Otherwise definitely recommended.

good hotel, far from ubud center
we booked this hotel knowing full well that it was far from the city center. it is about 1.5 hrs via the way of the rice fields, quite a bit of uphill hike, or 1 hr via the roads.
we did not mind it so much because we rented a motorbike for our trip. but for the first day, we had to hike all the way to ubud center. most of the hike via the rice fields was very pleasant and nice.. but there is quite a bit of uphill involved. it was pleasant for a one time thing, but if we had to hike everyday to ubud center, it could be a nightmare. =P
the place was clean and quiet from human noise and replaced with sounds of nature: the chickens make their sounds in the morning and the frogs or toads make their sounds in the evening. =)

Eight days at Bunga Permai, Ubud, Bali
Bunga Permai is ouside of Ubud, about a 40-50,000 rupiah taxi ride, or a good hour of walking. If you want a quiet, peaceful place to stay as a base for day trips, this place is perfect. The rooms, buildings and gardens are classically Balinese and the views across the valley are great. At sunrise most days the volcanic peaks to the east are visible, but slowly cover in mist as the sun rises. Breakfast is included in the room rate (about US$45 a day) and includes fruit, coffee/tea and a choice of 3 mains (pancakes, Nasi Goreng or bacon/eggs). The dining area is a Bali hut within the gardens with views of jungle to the east. The staff are vey friendly and speak English with varying degrees of understanding. The new Manager, Sam, is an excellent chef and speaks good English, Dutch and I think other languages. The pool area is a great place to relax and a massage/spa area is set into the hillside one level further down from the sun lounges. Our room was upstairs, with a large bedroom (four poster bed with mosquito netting) and a wall fan plus an excellent sized balcony with french doors . With the windows open at night there was no need for an airconditioner, although ground floor rooms are fitted with them. The bathroom was tired but adequate. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the place, and Sam made us a couple of special 4 course dinners to give a break from the a la carte menu. Overall, great place, great scenery and friendly people. Day trips with a car and a driver for 500,000 rupiah make anywhere accessible, and Ubud has attractions of its own as well. I'd go back without hesitation.

The upstairs rooms have nice views over the tropical valleys and Mount Agung. Don't get scared by some big ants though. Hotel is not at walking distance to Ubud so you'll choice will often be the hotel restaurant. No credit card payments were possible.

Me and my friend were just looking...
Me and my friend were just looking for something affordable first of all. So we booked this hotel with less expectations, we thought that it's just to park our bags and sleep. It was fortunate that we decided to call the day of sightseeing off early and checked in. It is far from shopping centers/buzz of the city but we don't mind - we had our time for that. The room has a wide, windy balcony with classic wooden furnitures. It was so serene, you are serenaded by the sounds of nature - chirping birds, flow of irrigated waters, soft rustling of leaves. The reclining chair affords a comfortable view of the blue skies with foamy white clouds. I cannot speak for others - but for me it was an ultimate retreat from the stress of work in the busy city. It was heaven and it was a sad silent goodbye when we left. Melodramic but yes it's a sincere appreciation. The staff are accomodating and more than welcoming.. Back here in Singapore, I just make do with imagining that ambience and I feel serenity and bliss.. Nature is therapeutic and Bunga Permai is nature. Thanks....

We had stayed at the Bunga Permai...
We had stayed at the Bunga Permai four years ago and were delighted to find that it was just as charming on this visit. Its tranquil setting, gorgeous garden and friendly and helpful staff make this a wonderful retreat, and excellent value. We look forward to returning once more.
