A beautiful place to get an idea of the real Bali
Coming from Legian, we stayed for two nights at this remote resort. It was the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful nature of central Bali and to get an idea of life in a Balinese village with the comfort of a quality resort.. Everything in the hotel is perfect, clean, friendly, pretty and with a strong Balinese touch. It's certainly not the place to party, but if you search for some rest and you like to enjoy the beauty of nature, this is one of the places to be. If you want to visit Ubud or something else, staff is helpful in organising a driver. Having a morning run through the rice fields while the sun was rising and with the mountains on the horizon was one of the best things of our whole Bali holiday.

Honeymoon Paradise
Our Royal Gardens experience was second to none. We found all our expectations met and most of them exceeded. We stayed in the villa with access to a fully equipped kitchen (complete with smiling helpers to discreetly take care of our mess once we had finished cooking) and a luxurious private pool. Puri Taman Sari is totally removed from any tourism or maddening traffic, set among rain forest, rice paddies and happy, helpful Balinese without guise or ulterior motive. Our driver, Gusde was knowledgeable, informative, helpful and friendly, taking us wherever we desired, though we found the hotel so peaceful and beautifully appointed we stayed 'home' much of the time. A few days of tropical rain provided opportunity to sit under traditional shelter by the pool, in the restaurant or numerous other areas provided, when we chose not to laze in our spacious room. Our bed was enormous and supremely comfortable, the air conditioner worked well and the bathroom was pristine and modern. Our hot open air shower, complete with tiny garden, was a rare treat, as was the big bath. The staff who deal with guests all speak adequate to excellent English, though most behind the scenes staff do not, making the experience feel even more authentically Balinese. We found a large grocery shop and many varieties of stalls within walking distance, easily negotiating our way through purchases from vegetables, eggs and rice to paint and paint brushes, despite the language barrier. Locals invited and escorted us to traditional ceremony, including dance, theatre and gamelan music which took place in the home of a local family. There were only a handful of foreigners there, all personally invited from Puri Taman Sari. Such a rare privilege was an honour and completed our unforgettable honeymoon experience. Thank you Gusde, Eta, family and staff of Puri Taman. See you again soon.

This hotel is located in the middle...
This hotel is located in the middle of nowhere, you cannot reach there by yourself unless you have a personal driver (assume you do). For those who love nature and tranquility, this hotel is excellent. It is run by a small team of polite and dedicated staffs (fluent in English and French), giving you a feeling of staying at somone's home, although the size is like a small palace. The suurounding of the hotel is well maintained and full of Balinese traditonal charm. For this price, it is a real treat. Their breakfast (continental only) is simple but ok, as can be expected in any hotels. I must mention that the hotel room does not have TV, internet and telephone! If you bring a lap top and want wi-fi, their hourly charge is high and connection is slow. So, we suggest you bring some favorite dvds and turn your laptop into a mini movie theatre should the night get boring. The nearby town of Tabanan is full of charm, people are radically different from that of Ubud and Kuta, prices at market are cheap and for real people, the food stalls offer authentic local cuisine too. I find this part of my trip was one of the highlights. Plus the location is near some of the famous temples and sites, one can sonsider a night or two staying here, just to be away from the usual crowd at Ubud and Kuta, etc.
