Great value friendly and a natural feel
I was recommended to Bali Village by the owners of another budget hotel that was booked at the time I needed, and I'm glad they did, as. Bali Village was a lovely place to stay. It's not a glam 'resort', but it' suited me perfectly as a base in Tanjung while I attended an event in Nusa Dua and explored the Bukit.
The rooms are set around a courtyard shaded by frangipani trees, with a refreshing pool, a little bale with electric connection for laptops, (there's wifi) and pretty lighting at night. The rooms were air conditioned, simply furnished (I would have liked a desk or table apart from bedside tables) with a comfy bed and adequate bathroom ( I believe some rooms have outside bathrooms, which I'd prefer). I liked the natural 'hacienda' feel of the courtyard, with natural clay coloured walls and thatched roofs. It was a lot cooler than I expected in the courtyard too, there often seemed to be a little breeze from somewhere.. it was a great little space to relax.
I changed rooms after the first night to better one with higher ceilings and a wider balcony in front and a sofa to sit on for reading (as the first one really was rather narrow, barely enough space to access the room).
Bali Village is located behind a cafe called Dewi Sri and unfortunately this cafe really does let the hotel down.. the breakfasts were sparse, any extras were expensive (20,000 for a Bali coffee, no milk available- and one morning it wasn't even that, but some awful instant stuff I sent back) and poorly served (a steak knife for the butter, no napkins, etc). However there are plenty of other restaurants around, as well as shops, massage places etc. Also there is a kettle and mugs int he room. Next time I'll bring my own coffee!
Off-street motor bike parking was a bonus and the actual hotel staff were friendly and helpful. I would certainly come back here again and recommend it for budget travellers. There is little else in this area comparable.
