Holiday Inn @ WaterFront, Batam, Indonesia
The Hotel was quite ok/just above average.
For the kids, just a few simple amenities.
1) The Panda Kids' Club was average. Toys and books were messed-up. No hard feelings since its the work of the children. But things aren't tidy and for game sets, they're incomplete.. Some games were damaged.. Very simple play-room for the toddler/nusery. Computer games for the older kids.. They offer simple outdoor activities eg fish-feeding too..
Suggest they need to build an indoor children's playground.
2) Children's pool was plain. The "Mushroom" (actually a children's waterfall) provided a little more entertainment though. The water-slide is for bigger kids and adults (i tried that but not my 4yr-old girl).
Food-wise, not much choice. The Thai restaurant was closed. The Teppanyaki doesn't seem tempting. The Chinese Dragon Inn Restaurant was only opened for lunch and dinner. We went for late lunch and it was closed thus we did not get to try its dim sum. Had been eating at The Terrace Cafe. Nice seafood buffet dinner. Quite good local ala carte menu.
Not much activites except for a few simple sports eg table-tennis, cycling.. unless you arrange for its team-building packages..
The spa treatment was excellent. Note that its resort/country-styled, not the high-class/modern environment. But its clean, but worry...

My family had an amazing trip! All the staff were very courteous and helpful. Our two room suite was clean and had a nice view of the pool. And the city was only a short drive away, just like a short drive from one end of Singapore to the other. Love it!

Overall, the room was ok since there...
Overall, the room was ok since there was four of us and we took the family suite. But I strongly suggest those who are seeking a place where food comes along easily to skip this place totally as the nearest shopping malls and/or food stalls are at least 30 mins away by taxi which will set you back for transport. Otherwise if you are seeking a short and super quiet time away from the hustle and bustle, this could be perfect for you.

The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. Also, our room was fantastic although it was not what I expected. We booked a suite and I had expected a bigger room but it was still very good. The room is clean and there are no distractons like leaking ceilings or insects. The staff at Holiday Inn are all very friendly and provided great services. The only flaw would be that the hotel is located on the west end of the island and near to one of the jetty terminal only. For Singapore visitors, we would be alighting from another jetty (Batam Centre) and hence the journey will take around 30-40mins. All around, it was a good stay and I will stay here again if I was on a leisure trip again.

The hotel I believe is the best...
The hotel I believe is the best in the area but Water front city isn't any city, it's mostly a ghost town, a dead area with nothing to see or do. There is no beach. A dusty piece of land next to the hotel kicks up a lot of white dust all over. Rooms were clean and the upgrade we got to a higher executive suite was good, the king size bed was too hard and so were the pillows. There were two split type air conditioners in the room but one wasn't working, we didn't really bother as one was enough. The size of the room was good, bathroom was clean but need an upgrade, it showed its age, the bath tub was chipped. The Thai and Japanese restaurants were average, but pricy, I'd say it would be cheaper in Singapore. The cafe food is average as well. The staff is very friendly and was very attentive and always with a smile. We used the sap twice, it's good but we've been to better spas. Prices aren't that cheap but the masseuse were good, but they need more experience in certain areas, such as manicures, pedicures and facials. If you want a cheaper spa, don't go to Batam, go elsewhere. The billing has a an issue as well, everything is billed in Rupiah, so the SGD rates are converted to the local currency at a rate which is against you.

We are a group of 4 who...
We are a group of 4 who stayed in the 2-bedroom suite over a weekend of Nov 2008. The first thing that struck us on the way to checking-in was the fact that the hotel is totally cut off from the rest of the world! The resort provides 2 trips to Nagoya daily (SGD$4 per pax one way) and it was a solid 30mins ride. If you are somebody wanting to have ample options: shopping, clubbing, dining etc., then this resort is probably not the best for you. That aside, the pool is not bad, you get kids and families splashing about in the day. The grounds are nicely spaced out, the gym is adequately stocked and there are bicycle rentals available within the resort as well. There is also a table tennis table, and tennis courts available if you like. One great dampener for us is: the resort does not have its own beach. The nearest beach activity is Waterfront City which still needs a bus or shuttle to take you to. Not cool. Dining options are not bad. There is a bar in the hotel that claims to have Brit-Pop music. On our first night, we arrived late, had dinner in the resort and realised that we were too pooped to take a 30-45min cab ride out to Nagoya so we popped by the bar. There was only a band that seemed to conprise of 14-15 year old teenagers. they did try their best to rouse the patrons in the bar though. Lastly, if you are someone who wants to lie and tan on the beach all day, maybe throw in some sea sports, then Holiday Inn is not the option for you. If you are someone who doesn't mind the pool, sleeping in all day and doing everyday activities like tennis and gym, you can try this place.

the staff is very very friendly. we were upgraded to a suite on the top floor. the only thing is that it's too far away from the city so if you're looking to shop it's not going to be very convenient. perfect people who wants to just relax. very clean as well.
