This hotel is the oldest on Gili...
This hotel is the oldest on Gili Air and it's age shows. The grounds are not well kept, the swimming pool a disgrace and even semi open smelly drain near our room and directly behind the main eating area. The standard aircon room was I think one of two left over from the old days, being a small, dingy part of a brick/concrete bungalow comprised of two rooms. Subsidence meant the room was bent and doors did not open/close correctly, it was small and dark and there was also no security for valuables. We booked this room because for this hotel the rate given by Asiarooms was cheap and it was airconditioned. However it seems that in fact a simple fan cooled room or a more expensive bungalow would have been a better choice. Our room was something like an old dilapidated homestay that should've cost more like 10 bucks a night, not any where near the price we paid (which was much less than the actual asking price, thank god). We could not even sit outside our room of an evening because it was close to the meal preparation area and restaurant toilets which discharged waste into a semi open drain that stank of the old days in Indonesia. I know that the more expensive bungalows were much much better as we looked at them but could not change to due to being booked out. Still, to me the rates are excessive and better value can be had by searching the island upon arrival as there were many newly constructed homestays not mentioned in travel guides o r advertised on the web.
