Awesome holiday
I have nothing bad to say about Gili Villas. Its a little bit off the beaten track (about a 150 metre walk) but that is a good thing- we walked past "villas" that were right on the main street, and i wouldn't have wanted the whole island gawking at me when i opened my front door every morning. This location had the peace and quiet of the village, but just a 30 second walk to the main street. You can walk out of your bedroom in your bathers and jump straight in the pool without anyone around.
The hotel itself was a beautiful. I spent most of my time alternating between the bali-hut day bed, getting a massage lady to come (which the hotel organised) and the beautiful plunge pool. The staff organised a cooking lesson for us, and every morning our friendly chefs would cook us a breakfast. They were accommodating to our every request, and all with a smile and impeccable politeness. You have to remember that this is a small island, and not expect the same experience as if your were staying at the Hilton- there are certain things that are not available, but your going to Gili for the island life experience. For example, another reviewer has taken a picture of the cushions and complained about the dirt and call to prayer. Let me say this- the hotel is NOT dirty, and the cleaning staff are very thorough. The call to prayer did get annoying when it went on for ages, but the island is predominantly Muslim, so what can you expect?
In short, who wants to sweat the small stuff when your on a beautiful island holiday?
If you're wondering if Gili Trawangan will be a good holiday- then I absolutely recommend it. Its the perfect mixture of island life- pristine beaches, turquoise waters, great restaurants, friendly people, not too many vendors harassing you, snorkeling, cocktails etc etc.
From my review you can see that i enjoyed myself immensely!
