Wow! Staying in a place of such...
Wow! Staying in a place of such historical significance. We got a great deal. Breakfast was very good. Room was so huge. The room servicewas fast & fantastic. They brought the food in a trolley with food warmer & the trolley was all setup to be used as a dining table. sure beats having to rearrange study table to have my supper as in other hotel rooms. Only let down was no free internet connection. The paid internet they offered was also not broadband so i didn't go for it. Best for families or groups.

We spend 2 nights in this marvelous Hotel. We enjoyed every bit of it and we are going to stay next time here again.
I hope the management appreciates the historic value of this place as much as we did. It's a perfect place to envision how Indonesia once was and what makes Indonesia today such an interesting place to stay.

I have stayed at this hotel 5 times now and each time it delights me. I have taked my children to stay there as they have grown as this is an elegant old style hotel of the type rarely found now days. It is a hotel full of history being the place where the Indonesian independence fighters made a stand and flew the Indonesian flag for the first time. As well as this it was part of the famous Sarkey chain, so if you can't afford Raffles in Singapore or the Oriental in Bangkok you can still experience the delights of old world luxury at a fraction of the cost. It also has a delightful Spa to paper yourself and a lovely swimming pool.

First class hotel with a lot of caracter and very attentive staff. I would not stay in any other hotel in Surabaya.

The hotel is well placed for access. The rooms are extremely well layed out with elegant features.
Staff are courteous, attentive and experienced
I was disappointed with several matters:
1. There was no hotel directory in the room - I had an executive suite for 3 days. The staff explained that this was due to a recent name change for the hotel and that new directories were being printed
2. Meals seemed to be over-priced compared to similar quality hotels and restaurants near by
3. Breakfast had a familiarity about it after the first day - virtually the same offerings each day
4. The price for hourly and daily internet connection was prohibitive - being IDR60,000 (AUD$9.00) per hour or IDR250,000 (AUD$35.00) per day. Other hotels in the area provide free wi-fi connection in the main lobby and restaurant areas with a nominal and reasonable charge for room connection. This does not, in my opinion, make the Mandarin satisfactory for Business Travellers relying on 24/7 internet connection
5. There was no DO NOT DISTURB sign in the room. Staff constantly rang the doorbell from 08:30 to 11:00 for matters like laundry collection, room cleaning and mini-bar. No chance to sleep in here
Overall the Mandarin is a nice hotel but in my mind overpriced with a few matters that need correcting.
For me - it is back to the Plaza Hotel for my next stay - somewhere I can work with reasonable costs and not be disturbed by over-attentive staff

My favourite hotel in Indonesia, with lovely gardens and spacious, well-furnished rooms. The service is always good and the staff pleasant to deal with. All in all, a wonderful place to stay if you'll be in Surabaya.
The spa looks nice, but make sure to reserve a time slot a day or two in advance, as it can fill up quickly.

I had a wonderful stay at the Mandarin Oriental Majapahit hotel. The room was excellently furnished, the service was good, and the price was very reasonable. The gardens are lovely. The location, about two blocks from the largest mall in Surabaya, is convenient as well. I would recommend the Majapahit to anyone visiting Surabaya.
