Our mission to restore and revitalize a group of historic southern Italian hill towns involves a detailed approach to the conservation of a rural heritage which has frequently been abused during the last 40 years. The major elements are: exclusive use of original architectural materials during the restoration, conservation of individual rooms retaining their original layout and use, furnishing in keeping the rural traditions of the Apennine Mountains, conservation guided by research of regional culture and the oral history of the local community with particular attention to local food and artisan traditions, retention of traces of life found in the fabrics of buildings.The compelling beauty and breathtaking settings of many historic southern Italian hill towns combined with their local traditions make them an ideal destination for international tourism. Santo Stefano di Sessanio is a fortified medieval village barely changed since it was built in the Middle Ages. It is located in the mountains of Abruzzo at 1250 meters above sea level, inside the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga natural park and it is a classic example of an Italian medieval hill town, with perimeter walls encircling houses and squares. The Sextantio project at Santo Stefano di Sessanio with its rooms is set in the dominating central position in the burgh. Besides their historical features and original autochthonous furnishings, the ample 27 rooms come with wood burning fireplaces and heated floors.
