We liked the triple room which was large enough to accomodate suitcases and still allow easy movement around the room. We also enjoyed the view from our balcony of the marina and fishing pier below with Sakurajima puffing ash across the bay. Having a breakfast buffet included with the (internet booked) room fee simplified our stay, and the food served included Western & traditional Japanese dishes with some Kagoshima specialties.
The front desk was able to exchange U.S. dollars to yen, but didn't have the ability to do the same with major credit cards. We were, however, able to use a credit card for room charges and gifts in the small gift shop. (Just a side note, none of the taxis in Kagoshima took credit cards, so lots of cash was always needed since the Tokyu Hotel is a bit of a drive from most places.)
The staff, although helpful, seemed a bit cool, definitely less outgoing and friendly compared to what we had previously experienced at the Sun Royal Hotel nearby. The exception were the girls who ferried our luggage. They always had big smiles and were warm and polite.
We did appreciate the same day laundry service and assistance with express shipping within Japan. (An inexpensive way to move items around if your suitcases get too overloaded!)
Overall, with the larger rooms, the quiet environment, and our basic needs having been met, we enjoyed the Tokyu Hotel and would stay there again.
