11 days in Kyoto - Spring 2012
I had the very good fortune of visiting the beautiful city of Kyoto this springtime (2012). My stay was for leisure purposes & I travelled alone. I chose the Aranvert Hotel initially for it's convenient position (it is positioned in the middle of trendy downtown Kyoto & Kyoto train station. Both within easy walking distance).
From the word go I was greeted warmly. Not only by the staff but by the hotel presentation. I have been to Japan several times & this hotel would have to be one of the nicer ones that I've stayed in. The staff are very friendly & willing to help with any request you may have. Even when the request is trying to score tickets to the Lenny Kravitz concert in Osaka!! They were only too happy to oblige.
The rooms are clean & cleaned every day. It was a welcoming sight after a full days touring.
The only negative - & this is very small - was the handing over of your room key each time you left the premises. A little annoying at times, especially when you just want to run out for a quick bite to eat or buy something from the Lawson (7/11 equivalent) down the street.
They offer free internet which is easy to use. I brought my own LAN cable, but I think they supply them on request.
I recommend Aranvert Hotel to anyone wishing to stay in Kyoto & I would have no hesitation in returning there next time I'm in the 'neighbourhood!'.

Room was clean, but very small. Didn't even have drawers to stow things out of the way.
A very pleasant stay
To my surprise the room was spacious compare to some hotel I stayed in Asia. Yukata is provided and we love the onsen which open till 1am. Hotel lobby ambience is pretty too. Is easy to locate especially with your very detail map. Though is situated in a quiet street we can access to food and grocery outlet nearby. Best of all we got a good deal, many thanks and we be back !
Comfortable and clean
A very nice hotel and far more spacious than the ones in Tokyo. Decent sized bathroom with a bath that could almost fit a dwarf (prone) in. The staff on the front desk speak good English and they provide a lot of information on local attractions.
There is no wi-fi!
Either side of the hotel are two 24 hour convenience stores which sell plenty of food and drink. Also just 5 minutes from a bike rental place. Ten minutes walk from Kyoto main station.
It is an ideal location to explore Kyoto from. Kyoto involves a lot of walking/cycling so the Japanese hot pool on the top floor of the hotel is a welcome treat. The staff provide a very clear leaflet detailing that the way locals use this pool may differ strongly from Westerners use of hot tubs. You wash yourself thoroughly at the side of the pool before entering it. Open til 1am too which is an absolute pleasure after a long day of sight seeing.
There is also access to washers and dryers which is very useful.
Worth the cost but certainly more than enough provided for a basic holiday.

clean , good customer service, the communal bath on the 13th floor was welcome after trudging around temples all day.

3 nights in Arenvert
Staff very available, very nice and mostly polite, always eagar to help. Comfortable double room according to Japanese standards. Hotel well located, near a subway station and sveral bus stops, but however in an area with few restaurants. Fortunately the hotel has its own restaurant, with various food. Public spa welcome after a day walk in the city.

We found this hotel excellent value, the staff were very helpful, able to organise tours easily, the restaurant had delicious meals. It was easy to find near a subway station, close enough to walk to Kyoto station and close to all the things we wanted to see

The hotel is generally clean, but the carpet in our room was beadly stained. The room was tiny; the double bed was jammed against the wall, and left only a small space on one side.
The dining room food was of excellent quality; the evening we dined there we were the only diners, and we asked for the loud intrusive pop music to be turned either down or off: our waitress told us that the music was popular, so she could not change it.
Kyoto is a delight; start on the 9th floor of the railway station South Tower, where the international tourist office has very helpful friendly staff, and (free) guides, both students and retired people. For excellent Japanese food, go to the 11th floor, where you'll find a variety of restaurants.
The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the station, and from Gion.
The hotel front desk staff are charming and helpful. Turn right out of the front door, cross the road at the crossing, and there's a 24-hour supermarket.
