I spent one night at the Airport...
I spent one night at the Airport Washington Hotel...and I'm glad it was only one night. While the hotel is conveniently located between the airport and the center of the city of Narita (and the JR train station), the shuttle bus that brings you to both locales runs at about every 20 to 30 minutes. Not too bad, but after 20:45, there is no more bus service between the city and the hotel, which makes for a very crowded last bus. When I was there on 6 June on that last bus, there were people who couldn't get on; hopefully, another bus was sent for them. As a consideration, bus service to and from the city should be extended past 20:45, at least during summer months.
Now the hotel itself. While I found my room to be comfortable enough (and a bit bigger than the shoebox of a room I stayed in during my first five nights at a hotel in Tokyo), the mattress of my bed was HARD. When I sat down on it the first time after having come in on a mid-morning six-plus hour flight from Singapore, I expected a little spring as I plopped my backside down. Instead, it felt like I was plopping down on a bench. People who love firm mattresses will love this place. The toilet/bidet combo is easy and convenient to use. The breakfast was free and satisfactory. There is a computer room with PCs to access the internet (¥200 for ten minutes). Check-out is at 11:00, which made it a drag for me since I had a 16:00 flght back home. Hotel staff is friendly and do strive to please - but not when it comes to allowing late check-outs. The hotel rate was approx. US$74 for the night, which is reasonable by Japanese hotel price standards, but in this instance, it may be a case of what you get for what you pay.
