I have travelled to some amazing places...
I have travelled to some amazing places and stayed in some beautiful hotels, and this is up there with the best of them. The service and attention to detail were both unprecedented and the food exquisite.

perfect room with balcony facing a nice view of the surrounding hills, beautiful luxury hotel, with details that make you feel that you are indeed staying at a luxury hotel.
the only but is the location (not remote enough from town to the feel the quietness and not too near to be a few minutes walk from the center) and the shuttle service, which does not run on a regular basis as announced. it only operates every 30 minutes from 5 pm, or so, until 10 pm, so you have to go by taxi (tuk-tuk or jumbo). the breakfast was also not as you could expect, a bit monotonous if you stay more than a couple of days. but comparing to other hotels in town, for the room (the biggest we saw in southeast asia hotels) it must be one of the best options if you are looking for top service in a beautiful, sophisticated setting! the spa is also worth a visit, for its service and facilities. think about visiting luang prabang during the lights festival (around the the beginning of october): the city becomes a truly amazing vision, croweded with local people offering gifts to the monks and to the mekong river.

Just got back from 4 lovely days...
Just got back from 4 lovely days at this hotel and what a treat! We were welcomed by a manager who spoke great English and we felt right at home. It's serene, relaxing and caters to every need. The spa was lovely and at a great value. In fact, the hotel was so nice, we barely made it to the city and would have been fine staying here our whole stay!

This is a well designed and well kpet hotel.
A very conveniant place if you prefer not to stay with an hotel located right in town center (just 5 min taxi ride; 2 $).
2 remarks:
The servers should pay more attention to clients instead of staying "back stage";
In a boutique hotel like this one you expect some presence and visibility of the hotel manager: we have not seen him once during our 4 days there.

Very good location even though not in the centre. However a good free shuttle bus service is provided. Staff very friendly and helpful. Pool more than adequate. Rooms large and clean. An extensive library with good guide books. Food good. Would definitely stay there again.

La Residence Phou hotel is certainly one of the best hotel I have ever stay. Everything is splendid. This is a five star with charm and incredible peacefull atmosphere due to decoration, view, atmosphere, friendliness of the staff.etc etc... We met the new GM, his wife and daughter. They were very kind and helpfull. You feel like at home...

March 2005 - Nice setting with pretty rooms. La Residence Phou Hotel is located at the edge of the city on a hill. Good location if you want to get away from it all at the end of the day or just sit by the pool. Very friendly daily staff, but upper management needs better training in customer service for a high-end hotel. Manager was very business like and jaded. He could not accommodate a late checkout and insisted that checkout be at noon, and reminded us several times. We felt like he was trying to get rid of us. The rest of the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast spread was western and very good. Restaurant good with both Lao and western food, and nice view overlooking the pool and the countryside.
